In January 2020, WAFB featured Medical Ink and founder Christin Dottolo, a registered nurse and medical tattoo artist, in a story about the impact of 3D nipple and areola tattooing for breast cancer survivors.

After years working as a registered nurse, including experience in surgery, Christin saw firsthand what women experienced throughout mastectomy, reconstruction and recovery. That experience eventually led her to specialize in paramedical tattooing and 3D nipple and areola restoration.

Medical Ink was founded to help women complete the final stage of their breast reconstruction journey with realistic, customized medical tattooing.

3D Nipple & Areola Tattooing After Breast Reconstruction

Following breast reconstruction, some patients are left without a natural-looking nipple and areola. 3D medical tattooing uses color, shading, highlights and carefully placed detail to create the optical appearance of a three-dimensional nipple and areola.

Every reconstruction is different, which is why Medical Ink approaches each procedure as an individualized restoration rather than a one-size-fits-all tattoo.
